12 Cancer-Causing Foods That You Should Stop Eating Again

As cancer becomes an increasingly prevalent disease, one of the leading causes suspected is our way of life, including our diet. Indeed,  many food products significantly increase the risk of cancer. But what are the foods that promote disease?

Here is a list of 12 cancer-causing food.

1. BPA Lined Cans

Bisphenol A is a chemical compound used for the synthesis of plastics and resins used in the manufacture of many products of everyday life (food and non-food). It can migrate from its containers to the food or drink that is in contact with it, which can be ingested by the human body.

BPA is an estrogen-mimetic; that is, it can bind to alpha and beta receptors for estrogen. In recent years, the scientific community discussed the risks associated with exposure to low doses of BPA in everyday consumer products. As an endocrine disruptor, its involvement has a role in the development of reproductive disorders, obesity, diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, and breast or prostate cancer. However, the data available to date have not confirmed its carcinogenicity.

2. Farmed Fish

Okay, it’s cheaper, but farmed fish is more loaded with potentially carcinogenic contaminants. It also contains on average 16 times more polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) than wild fish, four times more than beef and 3.4 times more than other seafood. Take wild fish instead and cook it in olive oil, good for the heart. Fish is rich in omega-3, a health-enhancing fatty acid that, instead of a saturated fat protein source, can help you control your weight. Farmed fish contain chemicals, PCBs, flame retardants, pesticides, antibiotics, and all these substances that lead to cancer.

3. Grilled meat

The grilled meat releases aromatic heterocyclic amines. Don’t eat it, opt for vegetable protein and fish. The World Health Organization confirms that grilled red chicken can also cause cancer. People who frequently consume grilled meats are at a higher risk of digestive diseases compared to people who consume less. It is probably due to the presence of nitrites and nitrates in these foods. Nitrates and nitrites may under certain circumstances give rise to carcinogens, nitrosamines.

4. Processed food

We do not want to alarm you, but perhaps you should review your menu slightly if you want to avoid cancer. They contain preservative chemicals that make them look fresh and attractive, but these chemicals can cause cancer. According to the World Health Organization, processed food is carcinogenic. It placed sausage, bacon, hot dogs, and ham on its red list because they would significantly increase the risk of colorectal cancer.

Eating just 50 grams a day of cold cuts (about two slices of ham) can increase the risk of colon cancer by 18%, according to the report. The problem is not so much the food itself as processing methods – smoking, drying or adding salt and preservatives. During cooking, sodium nitrite combines with the natural amines of meat to create carcinogenic N-nitroso compounds.

5. Refined white flour

It contains refined carbohydrates that are cause breast cancer among women. The alloxan in the white powder makes the bread soft and fresh. Studies show that alloxan destroys beta cells in the pancreas. The harmfulness of alloxan on the pancreas is so severe that in addition to breast cancer, it can cause diabetics as well. While knowing that Alloxane is toxic to your body, the FDA still allows some companies to use it when processing the foods we consume.

6. Sugar

Sugar can help activate the insulin pathway and elevate the level of growth factors like IGF-1 that is involved in cancers. Reduce the consumption of white sugar in hot drinks (tea, coffee, etc.) and breakfast cereals, confectionery, cakes, and cookies.

Fructose or glucose-fructose syrup are not suitable alternatives to sugar. They lead to insulin resistance that is not desirable for cancer prevention or diabetes.

7. Dairy Products

There is a link between the consumption of 3 and more dairy products per day and the risk of prostate cancer in men.

Dairy products increase the level of a growth factor in the body, IGF-1, which can be used to reveal tumors. Some dairy products contain detectable levels of steroid hormones (estrogens), without knowing if they have an impact on health.

If tolerated, there is no risk of consuming dairy products in moderation, preferably organic, from cow breeds or small ruminants.

8. Fried food

High consumption of fried foods was associated with various types of cancer in epidemiological studies.

Fries contain products of the degradation of fats (free fatty acids, aldehydes, polar compounds) that add to the toxic load of the body. They also contain acrylamide, a substance suspected of promoting cancer.

9. Popcorn

Popcorn in the microwave is convenient: it’s ready in two minutes. Maybe, but the risk is much more severe!

The main reason: the popcorn that goes in the microwave is full of bags whose lining contains perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). A chemical that health experts consider as carcinogenic.

Well, to avoid cancer of the liver or pancreas, we advise you to say no to the popcorn in a bag.

10. Alcohol

You will not get cancer just because you take a drink once in a while. On the other hand, if you drink every day and do not limit yourself to two drinks, you multiply your risk of contracting different cancers.

People who consume 3.5 or more glasses of alcohol per day, or about 50 grams of alcohol, have up to three times more risk have oral cancer and 1.5 times more likely to have colorectal cancer.

11. Soft drinks

You probably know that soft drinks make you fat. But did you know that they could also cause you cancer? That’s what Swedish researchers say.

In their 2012 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, a man drinking a can of soda a day was 40% more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer. The risks would be more significant for men aged 45 and over.

12. Canned tomatoes

Canned tomatoes are famous because they are inexpensive and easy to prepare. However, in 2008, the University of Missouri discovered that some canned products, including tomato sauce and tomato juice, contain bisphenol A. It is a chemical compound used to make various products made of plastic such as disks and bottles of water.

In addition to causing breast cancer, bisphenol A increases the risk of developing hyperactivity, attention deficit, hormonal imbalance, and obesity.
